| Leading Forwarders Opt for Ex Works Rollout underway to automate every trucker and office nationwide Boston, MA – March 23, 2006 – Ex Works Inc., a technology service that organizes the information flow between forwarders and their truckers, announced today that it has already topped 100 participating trucking companies – and adds another 25 truckers weekly to support the aggressive roll-out schedule dictated by its forwarder clients. Leading forwarders helped design Ex Works, and three tested it extensively with their truckers in the Northeast. Based on the success of those tests, all three have begun the process of automating every trucker and every office nationwide. Together, they have already created a queue that numbers over 500 trucking companies – and the queue grows each week. Ex Works is emerging as the service of choice for global players. “Three of the ten largest forwarders in the world have chosen to lead the industry’s truckers, large and small, to a single, straightforward solution,” said Gregg Borgeson, Ex Works’ founder and president. “We are thrilled that Ex Works has been chosen as the technology service at the center of this important step forward.” Truckers like the system. “I’m skeptical about technology,” said Joe Sarcona, owner of JJS Transportation Company, Inc., a large trucker at JFK airport. “But the fact is, Ex Works is easy to use, it saves us money – and we get paid faster. This is definitely the way to go.” Truckers also find that Ex Works eliminates all POD phone calls and all short-paid invoices – and makes mailing paper invoices a thing of the past. The major forwarders have selected Ex Works because it offers them connectivity to each and every trucker in their existing network, from the largest national player to the smallest mom-and-pop. Larger truckers connect electronically, and smaller truckers use the free website; and Ex Works’ staff does all the training and handles the electronic connections. Because it is simple for truckers – and because it is free – the trucker participation rate is 100%. Before they committed to the national roll-out, each forwarder carefully measured the benefits from Ex Works. “We conducted a detailed study of the cost of processing billing and PODs,” said Tom Outwin, Managing Director of the Northeast for Panalpina. “Ex Works automates these back office tasks with truckers, enabling our people to focus more attention on customer service and less on approving endless piles of paper invoices.” Panalpina also gathers each trucker’s tariff in a consistent format through Ex Works’ associated Vendor Management product, so that each invoice will be automatically audited by the system – and overcharges will be eliminated. “Let’s face it, truckers and forwarders can’t afford to throw more and more labor at auditing, coding and entering trucker invoices, reconciling short-paid invoices and fielding on-going phone calls and faxes to chase PODs,” said Borgeson, an industry veteran who learned the business from the bottom up at Emery in the 1970’s, BAX and ASG in the 1980’s and ran Hellmann’s North American organization as its President throughout the 1990’s. “With guidance from both forwarders and truckers, we’ve been able to build a simple tool that works in the real world.” About Panalpina The Panalpina Group operates a network of 500 branches in 80 countries.
